Costco - Register Checkout Review from Vancouver, Washington

Been a member with costco for more than a decade now but today 4/7/15 second time with the same issues I went thru. Costco as big company as you are - you should train your employees good customer service!!!!! Me and my mom are have two separate membership. She pays her membership in her own and I pay my membership with mine. I Went today to pick up my moms prescriptions since she went to work and no one will be available to pick up so I went by myself and showed her card. So the cashier told me that I can not show that card again since she was not there so with that I understand her point but I explained to her that this is her RX so that's why I'm using her card and then she replied NO u can't do that because she is not physically here. So I stop there. and then she saw my grocery cart that it's full so she went and told me that you can not check out with your grocery with your mom not here. Is it not too rude to assume that I am not using my mom's Costco card? Could she not ask me first if I am a member or not? Sometimes people so easy to jump into conclusions without asking....SO I SLAP HER WITH MY ANSWER THAT I AM A MEMBER TOO NOT ONLY MY MOM. SO I GUESS I CAN CHECK OUT. SO SHE SHUT HER NASTY MOUTH BUT DIDNT APOLOGIZE FOR WHAT HE SAID. AND THIS IS THE CASHIER LADY AT PHARMACY CHECK OUT. WE ALL HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT WE ARE NOT WORKING JUST TO GET PAID EVERY MONTH AND TAKE HOME A PAY CHECK. MANNERS AND BEING PROFESSIONAL TO PEOPLE INFRONT OF US. AND THIS HAPPEN TO ME TWICE AT SAME STORE. IT *** ME OFF THAT THEY LIKE TO EMBARRASS YOU TO PEOPLE AROUND YOU - They just show how and what they are behind the Counter. I think they have to go back and get some CEU CLASSES if they can how to be a good customer service people.

Couldn't buy a pizza for not having the membership card (since when?)

about 6 years ago until 2 weeks ago i was able to buy pizza, hot dog, etc by going in to 2nd door which is a separated section for people who are waiting after shopping or people to buy 'costco pizza, hotdog, etc.' I tried to go in today and i was blocked. The guy who was guarding looked at me like some kid trying to sneak in and said, 'You can't go in without card.' so i said since when the system has changed? im just gonna buy a pizza. He just said the same thing again so i just turned back. I really liked costco pizza. it was one of my favorite pizza and now since the memebership card is needed just to buy some pizza, and i was turned back without any explanation, and the way guard treated me (starting at me like some kid trying to sneak in..) i think i am never going back costco for pizza. I mean im not going to buy membership just to buy pizza. so yeah you just lost one customer who comes costco for pizza almost everyday.

Costco tells me you don't need a card to buy prescription drugs - tell the door guard that's what you're doing. Although the food court might still require you to show one...

Guest

Costco is a private company that is open to members only. And as forehead says, they make little money from the food court. Costco food is cheap, and if you don't want to fork over $55 dollars a year to save money on food then bye felicia!

Guest

Costco is making little or no money from the cafeteria; it's mainly a perk for the paying members. So they might not be sorry to see you go...

Very Disappointed With Unprofessional Staff

I spent an hour working on my resume and then another 30 minutes working on the application for Costco in Arvada, CO. I was told by a cashier that I should apply and that they may be hiring. She told me that after applying I should call and talk to someone about my application so that's what I did. When I called a woman answered and I told her I applied and she said to hang on and she put me on hold... OR SO SHE THOUGHT. I'm still on the phone listening to her talk to her coworker about something else that they were in the middle of. It sounded work related and since my call probably interrupted them, I was understanding. Then there was a lot of moving around like she was carrying the phone around or something I don't really know but after that she started mentioning how someone on the phone was asking if they're hiring and that some cashier told me to call after applying and "are we hiring or not?". Now before you call me a sensitive sally.... it was how she was saying it. VERY RUDELY as if I was a huge inconvenience to them and that it was dumb of the cashier to have told me that. It was all huff and puffy like "ugghh what a drag this person wants to apply here" and then when she answered the phone she said they weren't currently hiring and so I asked if I could leave my name and number for if anything opens up and she said no that they weren't hiring. I said thank you and she said goodbye and hung up. I just think that this whole finding jobs on the internet thing is hard enough and I spend so much time and energy practically working a part time job to call and get some snotty attitude like I'm not worth their time. This is not the first time I've seen or been on the receiving end of this kind of attitude and I'm sick of it. So to all the managers or whoever takes those calls... please try to think about how hard that person probably worked and how nervous they probably are to call and ask if you have something that would mean a lot to them. You've been there once too and if you haven't.... well then I'm sorry you don't know how to be polite to people.

Maybe you should understand a little bit about a retail job before you apply for one. In most stores a manager no longer sits in an office.

They have a phone on one hip, a radio on another and are out on the sales floor working with employees and customers. Your call may not be the first thing in line. They were probably finishing a discussion your call interrupted and the shuffling you hear was them moving on to another area to check on what openings were available. A retail store often takes in 20 or more applications for each open position.

The applications are reviewed and the people that look like the best fit for the position will be called in for an interview. A lot of things go into that selection. They will look at the hours you are willing to work to see if they fit the schedule they have open. If you are asking $25 an hour for a $10 an hour job, don't expect a call.

They will also look at your work history.

You can bet they aren't looking for someone that jumps jobs every 2 or 3 months. Yes you may spend a lot of time filling out applications...just keep in mind managers spend a lot of time hiring people and can only spend time talking to the few applicants that really fit their needs.

Bait and Switch return policy, rude clerks

I bought a case of Kirkland canned chicken, but found another product that was much better so I returned the chicken totally new and unopened, but didn't have the original receipt with me. They declined to issue store credit or cash back. Their return policy "guarantees customer satisfaction with a full refund". Yeah....right. Even more perplexing they couldn't pull up the history of my purchase. What the heck, did they delete it? Besides, it was KIRKLAND, the Costco brand. No ones pulling a fast one on them. They DO NOT honor your return with a full refund! If you shop at Costco, keep every receipt for at least 3 months!!!

This seems weird. I personally know that if you buy something with your membership card it is saved in their system.

There are only two ways it wouldn't appear.

1) Maybe you were with a friend/guest that day and use their card? Or 2) They never charged you for the canned chicken to begin with.

Costco and Diamond dog or cat foods

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have informed my relatives with dogs. Not to buy any brand of dog food made by diamond or Costco. I have read nothing but serious complaints of people pets getting sick and dieing for 3 decades. There has been to many recalls on diamond dog and cat foods and now Costco. Can not people get it into their heads. Costco and Diamond foods kill pets. Both companies will always be on the defensive. Neither company cares one dam bit about their product killing pets. All they care about is profit. It will take the FDA to issue a recall and ban all cat and dog food made by the above companies.

I have feed my dog Costco dog food for years and he is doing just fine. :) And on a side note to say that Costco only cares about profits you do not know this company very well.

Their members well being has always been at the top, if they have any products recalled they will email anyone that has purchased the product and also send them a letter stating to stop eating/using the product and to bring it back for a refund.

Ripped off at Costco Automotive

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I never thought this would happen at Costco Automotive but it did. I dropped my car off because the tire pressure light was blinking continuously. I took it to Lexus and they told me that 3 sensors were bad and they needed to be replaced. I called Costco and was told that they had the sensors in stock. I then took my vehicle to Costco and told them to replace only the 3 sensors that were bad. When I returned to pick up my car they had replaced all 5 sensors. The guy behind the desk called Scott Kershaw and he said he replaced all 5 sensors even though 2 were working normally. Then they had the gall to charge me for all 5 sensors. It cost me an extra $131.73 than it should have. I got up charged because the service man didn't listen. I spend over $10,000 dollars a year between personal and my business at Costco but not any more.

I am sure you work at Cosco and are trying to defend a position in which you were not there. I told him this because I am giving the car back to the dealer next week. Next time I suggest that you try to defend a position in which you know all the facts.

No, I do not work for Costco, although I would happily do so. They should have told you that they would have to replace all five sensors and I would hope that would become the policy. Then you could have made the choice.

Guest

No, you got up charged because the service man knew it was just a short time before the two working sensors would fail. I can hear your complaints when that happened and they had not been changed and you had to make an extra trip.

Keta/chum/dog salmon

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
The Palm Desert Costco's marinated boxed Copper River wild salmon is not clearly marked and is nasty tasting chum salmon. This salmon is commonly used as bait or fed to sled dogs and is not very palatable. Costco should be ashamed for not clearly marking it. It is very high priced compared to their frozen sockeye pieces, which are quite good. Other grocery stores usually carry whole coho or sockeye filets for a similar or lower price. The fact that this site requires a 100 word minimum just makes your comment less apt to be read. Keep looking for good salmon,

Be careful when you buy oranges, there's always bad and moldy ones at the bottom of the box. I tried to get at least a parcial refund for the bad ones, and they say that it has to be half of the box bad to get a refund. Wtf? so they refused to give me any refund. What a bad a demeaning customer service experience with Ena in the doral, Miami location. She doesn't get that you need to give people a refund when you sell moldy produce. Costco is getting to full of themselves. You may like a product and next thing gone, ask a manager you get a run around push to someone else answer. Next thing you see is a Kirkland product, when tried does not come close to product they got rid of. You can't reach the company, which shows their lack of concern of buyers in their store. I don't see them getting rid of the rows and rows of clothes or the furniture but food items gone in a heart beat. The stores even have taken items from the hot concession stand. Do they ever take the paulse of the buyers on what they would like gone or not.

You may like a certain item but it may not be popular enough to keep. Costco is built on the concept of selling LARGE volumes of product at a low profit margin.

If a item doesn't sell in large volumes it is replaced by an item that sells better. You can bet they take the pulse of their customers. It's done at the cash register. If a product is putting cash in the till it stays, and if it's not, the product is out the door.

Any store that wants to stay in business does the same thing. A store that keeps stocking the same old thing and doesn't change with demand will soon be closing their doors.

Costco - Membership Review from Brisbane, Queensland

Its a member warehouse. You have to be a member to shop there.

The membership is 12 months, and can be returned any time. This is not a regular retail store. It is also a private premises.

They have the right to set whatever rules they want, and these rules aren't new - they have existed ever since the very first store opened in the united states. You have to have an annual pass to visit a theme park - why don't you complain that they won't let you in for free either?

If you only wanted to look - sign up, get your card, walk around the store, then hand the card back and get your money back - simple!

However - Living 4 hours away - take an esky and a big car, buy up big, store it and you'll save a bundle.

Costco - Horrible Customer Service

I have never seen such horrible customer service than at Costco. Most companies are all about keeping customers happy. Costco seems to have a different policy. I have read several reviews & they all seem to revolve around the same thing. Rude customer service. Perhaps Costco should address some of these issues & update their policies (because the common response to these complaints seems to be "that's policy"). Here are some suggestions: 1. Don't be rude to your members. They pay to shop there so maybe you should keep them happy so that they will keep coming back. It's called "customer loyalty". 2. When a member brings in a guest, try to sell them a membership, especially when the guest wants to buy something. Don't be rude to the guest because they are not a Costco member, because guess what? After seeing how rude & snooty your staff can be, they won't want to buy a membership. Doesn't more members equal more profit? 3. Your system allows people to pay with credit cards that have a different name than the member card, so stop telling people that your "system" does not do that. See point 2 for a solution. 4. Just because two people have the same address on their drivers license does not mean they live in the same household. It just means that they have the same mailing address. 5. If you have issues with guests taking advantage of member pricing, then have non-member pricing. Worked at Safeway. We don't love in Costcoland.

If you read what you signed up for, Costco does not take payment from non-members in general, especially credit cards. When you sign up for a credit card, you realize credit cards are non-transferable, the same way a Costco membership works.

So no, you may not use someone's Costco card, and then try to use your own credit card. See point 3.

Guest

I agree with most of what you said, but point four is wrong. Your drivers license souls have you're physical address, not your mailing address. You can't put a PO box number on your drivers license.

Guest

Absolutely, Costco employees are the rudest people, as a whole, I have encountered. Like many folks I have progressed to the use of a smartphone.

I have apps for most things. Including many very secure items, like credit cards and licenses. I put my Costco card on an app. The Costco employees flipped.

Told me they were better and I should always have my card. When I showed the manager my Am Ex card in an app. He said "we're better than them", turned and walked away.

THAT is rude. Funny, I thought Costco was supposed to be a progressive culture company.

Guest

What do you consider rudeness? I have a hunch you think people are rude if they don't bow down to your every demand.

BEWARE OF COSTCO/AMERIPRISE INSURANCE FRAUD

You will be offered the best price for Auto and Home Insurance by Ameriprise thru COSTCO discount. But the catch is they will get your money via premiums every 6 months until you have a accident or couple of speed tickets than they start monitoring your account to see how they can get rid of you even you loyal customer for long time. In my(COSTCO executive member) case I have been loyal customer for both Auto and Home insurances for last 10 years with no claims on Home till now and Auto in last 3 years we had 3 claims. So, my flag is on and they were waiting to get me which they did in very horrible way they cancelled my auto insurance without letting us know because our 6 month premium check went late by couple of days due to sever weather conditions and other delays. We were not knowing that till we called them other day we are no street driving all our vehicles without insurance for 15 days with kids which is don't want ever to do in your wildest dreams too. When I called them they don't want to reinstate and don't have clear answer why they don't want to reinstate which I is obvious they don't us. It is so third grade and horrible treatment they have given to a loyal customer for 10 years just because who had claims in last 3 years but they got all your premium for 7 years when they are no claims. BEWARE OF THIS INSURANCE FRAUD HOPE COSTCO MANAGEMENT FIXES THIS ISSUE WITH THEIR VENDOR/PARTNER COMPANY AMERPRISE SO THAT IS NOT REPEATED AGAIN TO ANY OTHER COSTCO MEMBER.

Supervisor's treatment of employees

I went to costco this AM and was very embarrassed to be Caucasian! All I witnessed was white supervisors and managers yelling at other employees of other races and treating them like children. One man was bellowing get these tables squared... something to do with the clothes and the mini-supervisors were repeating this instead of all of them working together. One lady was trying to explain something and was ignored and rudely told to fix things. Personally I was scared to touch the clothing along with another customer. I then made my way to the front where another white person was pointing her finger and telling an employee that she had to apologize to someone else. Again the employee wanted to talk but was not given a chance. Now you might be thinking that I was the nosey customer who should of minded mown business.. and unfortunately I did. I just walked by! Stop paying so much attention to race and then pretending to not be racist. Non racist people do not take a head count of how many people of each race are in different positions every where they go.
