Costco review in Las Vegas, Nevada: La Raza invaded Cotsco!!!!

My 81 year old mother has been a loyal Costco customer for years. She always bragged about the superior customer service at the Marks location in Henderson NV. We were treated so rudely by the predominately Latino employees. I could not beleive the ignorant aggressive behavior we suffered. My mother moved too slowly to pay for her food and was told to "move faster there were other custumers behind her". We were embarrased at the door when one of the Latino employees yelled at her to show her receipt which she had in her hand. The staff should represent the customer base. Where is the diversity? I guess the Latino staff didn't feel they had to treat us with the superior standard of customer service my mother bragged about at the Henderson -Marks location. We did complain to a manager however I am not confident anything will be done. Shame on you Costco!

@cpac

Person filing complaint sounds like they speak the truth, a non-politically correct truth. Thank you for reporting such poor treatment by Costco staff!

My Costco Card Won't Work

Over a year ago, my Costco charge card quit working. I mean, the magnetic part is corrupt. I cannot purchase gas and when I use it inside the store, the Manager has to be called each time! I have asked for a new card, but the person from India on the phone keeps telling me that my card is fine. It is not fine, it will not work!!!! I have tried to order a different card, no luck there, either. It would help if the people on the telephone could speak good English. Please help!! This is a complaint about the charge card itself.

My membership card with the picture lost the magnetic data too. They issued me another card without a picture which I leave in the car.

I am new to Costco.com but would be happy to look into this for you. I believe the last person's response was correct and that the membership desk could replace your card and that would fix the issue. If that doesn't resolve your concern just reply back to this thread and I'll look into an alternative action for you. I apologize you've had such trouble up to this point for something so simple. We do value your membership and apologize for the frustration.

Sincerely,

A concerned Costco employee who isn't getting paid to respond to this thread.

There are two types of Costco Credit Cards (because costco does not accept typical visa/mastercard cc). American Express and HRS (household retail services) are the only Credit modes of payment accepted.

I am guessing that you are having difficulty with your HRS card - the membership desk can electronically request a new one issued to your home (stop by the returns/membership desk) or you can keep trying to reach another person through their customer service, though it may be an exercise in frustration.

Amex is moderately easier to resolve through their phone csr's. Good luck!

Bear in mind I have no grudge against Costco. I just find it funny when the posters rip people here with a beef about Costco. To everyone: Alot of the people defending Costco are EMPLOYEES who work at the Call Center, I know they used to make us troll message boards...

Costco seems to have pretty good customer service...only 36 complaints for such a big company. You look at best buy and they have close to 700 complaints.

Some of the complaints about Costco are pretty weak to.

It's pretty easy to tell when a comment is written by a Costco employee and it's a little disappointing that the company which seems to have such a good reputation, endorses its employees to troll the message boards. Its not necessary and unprofessional.

Costco is too much like an army camp and they also expect you to pay a membership so they can profit from you shopping there. No, too much bother, regular stores are better.

Costco Amex cards

Costco Amex card is a HUGE disappointment. I Keep paying it off and they keep charging me finance expenses. I have had a credit card for 30 years and have never paid finance charges. I cancelled the card and still got finance charges. I will never get a card from Costco or Amex again - I am very unhappy- it is a bait and switch game - I will go back to my trusted credit union. The bill got missed placed and when I found it I was a couple days late when I paid it. The next 2 months I paid it on time and still got finance charges, they never stopped until I cancelled the card.

*** Costco - Everett, WA ** In 2007, I had a returned check to Costco. This check was returned due to a bank error. However, I was in a car accident and three months of rehab (outside my residence). Upon getting home, I went through stacks of mail to find that I had a...

Costco is not the insensitive one, if anyone is to blame it's your financial institution that screwed up. If they made a mistake they should pay all the fees, why should costco pay anything for your banks error?

Why should they be out of pocket?

Because you had an accident? Sorry to hear that but, you need to project on the correct party.

I'm sorry but even if it was the same last name she still wouldn't of been able to use it. She would need her own Costco membership card with her name and picture on it ((which is free if you live in the same house) and we mainly just look at the picture).

Costco Railroading Member Fees

When checking out of Costco there was a lady there who wore a bunch of bead necklaces. She came at us talking frantically to persuade us to upgrade to a higher level of Costco membership. We told her that we don't have any use for the services offered but she just kept at us. She said it was guarented that we would get the money back if we didn't show its benefite by the end of the year. Sure, we would spend enough on foods but the new upgraded card wouldn't give us anything we didn't already get which was 1% on our purchasing of groceries. We don't stay in motels, don't fly, don't eat in restaurants anymore and have our car insurance through AARP etc. Now I have to call up this morning after I came to my senses and reverse the process we were talked into. Each time she would "sink" another card holder to the upper level she got a necklace. Well, she "sunk" another pig. I am going to call up and discontinue my membership after 26 years. It cost me $10 in gas to get there from where I live plus $100 a year membership. You have to buy a lot of stuff to make up for the money spent in membership alone at a 1% kick back. I have written in and called them in the past few years to ask for things to be changed and have never gotten anyone who cares to write back. Costco has gotten tooooo big. I'M GONE. Then I found out I could have stayed home and paid less for gas than I paid at Costco!!!! Plus our local store had chicken for 20 cents less a pound-Grown in Washington. I am so mad right now that I am going to take another $10.00 in gas and drive back to the store. The packaging at Costco is usually too big for us to use. You have to buy a 10 foot refrigerator to house the big container packaging they sell. I end up throwing things away because the two of us can't use a two quart jar of mayo. before it goes bad. In all their candy selection they don't have sugar free for the millions of us out here who can't eat sugar anymore. Do they care? NO!!!! Then when I tried to find the peanut butter I usually get they had only Jiff which has Crisco in it. I found the other peanut butter on an isle in the midde of the store. It was being featured. I told the clerk I was not pleased as I almost went home without any. She said it was a game that Costco played to get people to circulate around the store in hopes they might find something else they might see. I told her if I want a game I will go to Safeway or some other store. When I come to Costco I want to shop and get out of there. I don't want any Easter egg hunt.

Well if you can be convinced while standing in the checkout line its probably not the only thing you have bought "under such pressure". Get real with yourself, just say NO to these type of people. It works.

I have been being soliciting big time to upgrade to execute membership lately in Kirkland and Issaquah. If you find it bothering, please call up 1-800-774-2678 and told them to put a note to don't bother you to do the upgrade. Tell them this is America, you have the choice to decide you want to upgrade or not and they should never bother you like the poor kids in the 3rd world countries asking you for spare change.

The executive membership gives 2% back on your purchases. There are 2 ways to do the executive membership. Either sign up for the 100.00 fee for a year, or upgrade in the middle in the membership term for a pro-rated fee. You then get a 2% check mailed to you before your membership expires. It is 100% guaranteed- meaning that if you get the check and it isn't what you paid for the upgrade (the extra 50 bucks at the start or the pro-rated fee) then all you do is bring the check in use it towards items or cash it out (yes the checks can be cashed out.) Then you stop at the desk and downgrade and receive your fee refunded. You don't lose anything if it doesn't benefit you.

The employees that are upgrading folks while they shop just simply inform people of how much they could get back. You have to be really dumb to not upgrade after buying 2,400 dollars worth of electronics in one shot, with a YEAR to go on the membership(yes i have seen folks in line turn down the upgrade person, then i chime in how you have to be really idiotic to turn down money coming back to you, and if it doesn't come back the way you like it, all you do is get a refund!) They usually upgrade after i tell them- as a lifelong Costco Executive member.

other points- Costco is not a convenience store. It is a warehouse, bare bones...no frills. Come in with time to shop. Not on a weekend day at 2pm when your in a rush. They often rotate through product brands and selection. Yes you do get hooked on something and sometimes you'll find it gone. But if a store had the exact same thing every day week and month of every year and never changed product selection then they would be SLOOOWWW and out of business. Often times if a price on a product goes up, then Costco will eliminate the product in hopes that the supplier will cringe over losing millions not having it being sold at Costco anymore that they will lower their price and Costco will carry it again. This is how they drive prices down. The overall goal is to always drive the price down and sometimes they need to "negotiate" with suppliers.

Membership is 100% refundable. Nobody is forcing you to pay it, if you're not happy then don't join or renew it. Good luck paying 70% markup for less quantity at grocery stores. Costco's markup is capped at 15%.

Return policy- every non-electronic item is 100% refundable at anytime, keep your receipt to get the price you paid back, otherwise it is the current price you'll get refunded (prices often go down, see above!) Electronics- 90 days, after that you can go through technical service or warranty which Costco adds a year to. No charge for all of this. Try getting out of Best Buy without paying for an extra warranty and paying a restocking fee when returning something. That alone right there is reason to be a member.

Just my thoughts as a Costco 15 year member.

With the executive membership you actually get 2% back on all your purchases.

Costco american express card reduced limit increased interest

open costco american express - $5,000. credit limit reduced credit line to $2000 when balance due was $1,800. Called and told my credit reveiw was not proper - received credit report showed two items which were not open - also they stated I never was late and alway paid far more than minimum payment - gave me a bad taste for costco - they should be aware of what A E is doing in theri name. I am not sure if I want to upset myself by calling costco. What can I do? I many other credit cards so no having the use of american express is not a necessity

I had the same experience-- raised my interest rate 13% to 27.24% and cut my limit in half. There were no late payments.

I called and was also told it was because of my credit report.

But they immediately lowered the interest rate to 9.24%. Well worth the call.

I love my Costco Amex card. I pay it off monthly and I love the rewards check I receive every February. Thanks Amex and Costco.

I have had a VISA card for over 20 years and four months ago I decided to get an AMEX card from Costco. BIG mistake.

First they lowered my limit after I did a balance transfer and then they cancelled my card after I complained about it. When I tried to resolve this issue, it was like a SNL skit because I was transferred to six different customer service idiots.

Stay with VISA!!!!

Amex knows what it's doing. Don't blame Costco.

You sound like you should be reining in your spending anyway.

If you can't pay it off totally each month you're over spending.

They think you're a poor risk. End of story........
